Focus on Connestee Events

The NRSC sponsors educational excursions and presentations, many of which are led by CF residents. The NRSC has featured walks about geology, wildflowers, birds, trees, and ferns, as well as talks about bears, deer, and the hemlock restoration. Check the CF Friday Flier for details about upcoming events.

Bird walks were held in 2022 and 2023 led by CF resident expert Mary Freudenberg.

A Tree ID walk was held in 2022 and a Fall Color event in 2023 led by CF resident biologist Laurel Young.

Additional outings are being planned for the summer of 2025.  All events are promoted in the weekly Friday flyer.

Two fern walks were held in 2022 and one in 2023 led by CF resident expert Bob Spare.

Wildflower walks were held in 2022 and 2024 led by CF resident expert Penny Longhurst.  The 2023 spring event was cancelled due to heavy rains.

One Geology 101 walk was held in 2022 and two were held in 2023 led by CF resident geologist Roger Witmer.

CF resident Dr. David Herminghuysen provided a fascinating presentation about black bears including their physiology, habits and habitats.  

Whitetail Deer 

NCWRC Wildlife biologist Justin McVey discussed white-tailed deer habituation, habits, and habitat, followed by a Q and A session.
