Stiltgrass Volunteer Day

Huge thank you to Andy McCumber, Kristine Buckley, Bill Buchler, Laurel Young, Pearse Webster, Dolores Brown, and Abby Braman for a very productive and successful invasive stiltgrass removal day! The team removed thick mats of non-native stiltgrass that were completely choking out native vegetation, uncovering native ferns and beautiful perennial wildflowers like the southern harebell. 

Remediation efforts occurred at the Amakola Trail trailhead and along Connestee Trail up the hill from Ticoa Dam, Middle Connestee at Iya Ct and Ugedaliyvi Court, and along Connestee Trail near Kanasgowa Dr. 

Pulling or weed-whacking stiltgrass in August, before the plant goes to seed, greatly decreases next year's crop and can eventually eradicate the plant.
