Did you ever wonder how our Blue Ridge Mts got here, and how Connestee Falls (the actual “falls”) formed? CF beloved resident geologist, Roger Witmer, treated CF residents to a Geology Overview, including a look at rocks (some over 1 billion yrs old), minerals, and fossils. The group then hiked down Ogana Trail, across Batson Creek, up to the Cave Trail, and on to the Falls, with short geologic discussions along the way. Roger taught the group how plate tectonics generated our multiple mountain-building episodes, culminating in the mountains we see today, and how geologic processes produced Connestee’s topography, rocks, soils, streams, and plunging falls where Carson and Batson creeks collide! The Geology Walk and Talk event is so popular that additional dates have been added for summer and fall. Thank you, Roger and all who attended!
